Coopers Strong Stout
Coopers Strong Stout
Afternoon everyone, im looking at making a strong stout approx 7% i have 2 coopers original stout kits so do we reckon putting both in FV with 1kg of brew sugar? or people got any other suggestions?
I have also seen coopers RIS recipe on their website but i dont have a dark ale or coopers lager although i do have a brew buddy lager and a youngs definitive lager would anyone suggest putting 2X coopers stout and 1 of those lagers? or just stick with 2 coopers stouts?
I would also consider using some malts ie chocolate if someone thought it would work.
Cheers for any input

Re: Coopers Strong Stout
Hi
I made a similar brew back in April 2012, but it was a shorter brewlength of 10L and only contained one can of Coopers OS Stout.

I can't see a problem brewing both tins of stout and 1kg of dextrose to say 20L. It's a similar malt and sugar combo as the Vintage Ale recipe and that comes out at just over 7%
You will need a large FV though, as the fermentation will be volcanic in a standard 25L job!

Re: Coopers Strong Stout
Hi I recently did the coopers ris and I had to improvise a bit it calls for 1xcoopers lager, 1xcoopers dark ale and 1x coopers stout and 1kg of brewing sugar .I used 1xcoopers lager 1 x geordie mild 1x brewmaker irish velvet stout 500g of brewing sugar 500g of dark spraymalt and for some reason I also added 1kg of demerera.because I heard this has a monster krausen I divided it into 2 x25l fvs and split the ingredients between the two.7 days in the fv and a further 9 in the bottling bucket i got it down to 1020 which was the recommended fg, bottled on the 25th December , and it is absolutely gorgeous already as I never took a og I dont know how strong it is but the coopers website said 11% I think and that was without the demerera!!

Cheers for that mate I think ill give this bad boy a go in a month or so..how much did you prime with..also do you think this would work??
Mix everything in one fv then before pitching the yeast split the wort into 2 fvs via a tap on my bucket? Instead of guessing whats half a tin ect.

Re: Coopers Strong Stout
I did a brew with 2 x coopers pale ale cans and 1kg of sugar shorted to 20L. That came out at 6.9%
I fermented with a heater in a 25L youngs wine fermenter, and the additional headspace in that meant it never caused a problem

I'm assuming that you've never brewed a Coopers Dark Ale or Stout then?nutmeg31415 wrote:I did a brew with 2 x coopers pale ale cans and 1kg of sugar shorted to 20L. That came out at 6.9%

This was my Coopers Smoty Ale brew, which was a tin of APA & a tin of Dark Ale to 23L. It carried on like this for about 12 hours!
Can't imagine how much carnage would result from the double stout brew.

Note to self: if doing one of these, use a decent sized trug for a bund-wall! Amazing pictures!!
