Grain in Cornwall

Post by mozza » Thu Mar 14, 2013 10:54 pm

Was wondering where cornishmen get their malt from? Probably gonna go for a 25kg bag online but before I do I didn't know if there was somewhere in cornwall that I can buy from?

Any help appreciated,

Sam

I would be interested to know if there are any shops down that neck of the woods. I travel about with work and like to drop into local homebrew shops if I can. So far the closest I have found is the Hop Shop in Plymouth.

Yeah the only option is Camborne (terrible customer service) or Plymouth (expensive) I order everything for The Malt Miller or Worcester hop shop.

If you're in Cornwall and up for a meet we were going to organise one at some point. Cornwall seems pretty sparse on the homebrewer front

The closest maltsters we have is tuckers maltings in newton Abbott. I was planning in doing a bulk buy at some point if enough people were interested

I'll start a thread soon and give tuckers a call to see what kind of deal we can get.

I have a vw caddy van.

Where abouts in Kernows are you from?

Just got off the phone to tuckers. The crazy old guy on the phone kept giving me prices for one bag. I kept saying I want a better price for more bags as I can get it far cheaper from resellers. He sounded very confused and said he'd call back.

That sounds promising!

Do you not have any micro's or regional breweries close by that you could approach?

I approached Driftwood Spas in St Agnes and he seemed a little confused but said he could supply very small quantities. Its a long way away for me to go. I emailed Skinners who quoted silly money. Emailed Atlantic who outright ignored me. Wooden hand also ignored

To be honest, there's nothing to be funny about. True, a brewery has to account for the malt it purchases but the brewery I buy malt from gives me a receipt so if the excise man wants to know where it has gone, they have my details.

I live in Bethel. My brother on here (Matt12398) lives in Truro. I have 25kg of crisp MO and 25kg of lager if you want small quantities let me know and I'll sort you out. I probably know you to be honest

Cheers for the offer :) I've just finished making my first all grain set up so want to make three batches straight off as I've got a couple empty king kegs and bottles lying around in the garage. So probably need a good 14-15kg of MO to get me going. Would probably be better buying a big bag I guess
