Coopers Green Neck Lager
Coopers Green Neck Lager
After a tried a bottle of this brew off Monkeybrew last year, I was inspired to get a really nice clean crisp lager ready for summer!
viewtopic.php?f=4&t=47823&hilit=+green+neck
I followed the recipe and method to a tee, although I didnt have my wort at 24 degrees and with no way of boosting the temp, I was forced to pitch at 19 degrees. Hopefully this wont impart the flavour!

I am now testing areas of our tiny house to find a cool area that is pretty consistant!
Cheers

Re: Coopers Green Neck Lager
I made this last year. It is a nice drop as they say down under but compared to our mainstream supermarket bottled lager it lacks bite. Ideal for the under age teenager and lactating female brigade ie inoffensive.
I have bought another kit and intend to try a saaz hop addition.
I wouldnt worry too much about your ferment temps. The coopers yeast seems very forgiving. I am drinking a pilsner now which I had problems with temp control and it tastes perfectly OK.

Re: Coopers Green Neck Lager
You will get less unwanted flavours pitching at 19C than the 24C that Coopers suggest. It's just probably better to wait 36-48 hours before attempting to lower the wort temp to 15C.
It's worth reading this whole chapter and picking out the relevant information for your brew.

Put a FV of this on myself last thursday. It's now in the cupboard under the stairs, not seen any airlock action yet and no krausen. It's probably about 16 degrees in there.
Re: Coopers Green Neck Lager
I've got so excited that this is an actual lager thread, I can't remember what I was going to say.

Now I remember!
Ballsed this up with a very low fermentation. Still ended up a good drink. Think it was around that time I left a fermenting pilsener out in 25c Deffinately wasn't a good drink.... Dark days.

Re: Coopers Green Neck Lager
That means its doing its thing! With lager yeast, there will be very little obvious active fermenting going on! Which is odd after a few years of ale fermenting and its very obvious signs!rydog wrote:Put a FV of this on myself last thursday. The tins recommended fermentables is one KG of Brew enhancer two, ansd thats it, which contains dextrose, maltdextrin and light spray malt. The fermentables for green neck lager apart from brew enhancer one, is light spray malt. 500g of each. Brew enhancer one does not contain light spray malt and on its own is ideal for light beers like pilsners and lagers.
Does that help? I think I have explained it right!! haha!

Re: Coopers Green Neck Lager
As the sun has finally shone today and burnt my slaphead, I thought that I would dig out a bottle of my Green Neck Lager that I had stashed in my Super Maturing crate.
It was bottled on 17/02/12 and tasted very good. As you recalled, it has a very slight sweetness to it and didn't taste like a kit brew IMO.
Anyway, it goes to show what a good little recipe that it is, so enjoy matey

Its a great beer and trying yours was the reason I have brewed this one as I said above!
I took a reading yesterday and it was 1009 and tasted great even at 17 degrees and not primed!!
I have 500g of Enhancer 1 and 1kg of light spray malt hanging around! I dont know whether to do another for rolling stock or try a pilsner with the fermentables that I have!
Decisions eh?
Cheers
