Do you have a go to recipe or a house beer?
I rarely brew the same beer more than a handful of times. I think I really need a go to beer to have on tap at all times so I was wondering what everyone here does.
The only beers I really go to more than once are pale ales, something like:
90% Pale Malt
5% Carapils
2.5% Biscuit Malt
2.5% Crystal
Then a big aroma hop on top of that, most commonly Cascade, Centennial or one of the other C's.

Not an exact recurring recipe, but I often revert to variations on a multigrain Belgian Farmhouse Ale theme. Infinite possibilities from simple ingredients.

Re: Do you have a go to recipe or a house beer?
I guess if I had to have a "go to" recipe it would be the London Pride recipe out of Wheeler's book. The only thing I did to it was add a smidge of bisquet malt but I just love that stuff and it does well in contests; I win something every time I enter it. Of course, that is a blessing and a curse at the same time. I like it so well I can't bring myself to try some of the other recipes in the book. I figure, why chance something new and untried (at least by me) when I know I have a sure thing with the London Pride recipe. Incidentally, does anyone have a favorite out of that book besides that, I really need to expand my horizons.
When it comes to drinking beer I must admit I am rather "slutty". I always make sure that I have three different kinds of beer on tap at all times and when imbibing I rarely drink the same beer more that once in a session. Right now I have two lagers and a Robust Porter on tap, I really, really need to make some English stuff, it's been way too long.

Drinking:Saison (in bottles), Belgian Dubbel (in bottles), Oud Bruin (in bottles), Olde Ale (in bottles),
Abbey Triple (in bottles), Munich Helles, Best Bitter (TT Landlord clone), English IPA
Conditioning: Traditional bock bier, CAP
Fermenting: Munich Dunkel
Next up: Bitter (London Pride like), ESB
So many beers to make, so little time (and cold storage space)

Re: Odp: Do you have a go to recipe or a house beer?
My father in law wants me to brew only pale lagers and golden ales. My wife wants only dark milds, porters and imperial stouts, maybe Czech style dark lager sometimes. Fortunately my daughter is only 9 so I don't have to brew anything to suit her taste!
I have too much weird brewing ideas to think of while brewing another house ale for my family.

Like seymour I don't have a "go to" recipe, but I almost always have a variation of Bitter and IPA on tap.
Re: Do you have a go to recipe or a house beer?
I like to have 3 kegs available to drink.
But I always have a Guinness in one of them. 70/20/10 Target to about 45ebu.
Simple but magnificent brew.

Re: Do you have a go to recipe or a house beer?
Mine is either a Kolsch 90% Pilsner 5% Vienna 5% Wheat to OG 1048 with Tett to 25-30 IBU
OR my own 'Golden' ale which is MO Pale Malt 90% UK Carmalt5% Wheat 5% to 1044 OG
Bittered with Challenger to 30 IBU with 10 IBU of Aurora at ten mins thn dry hopped with Styrians
Both simple, Pale and hoppy
I plan to formulate my own Mary Jane type beer, but as it is a Manx version it will be Voirrey Jinn
Cheers!

This is a no brainer: brew a lot of dark milds, porters. and imperial stouts. Once a year brew a dark lager.zgoda wrote:My father in law wants me to brew only pale lagers and golden ales. I'm just here for the beer.
Re: Do you have a go to recipe or a house beer?
I have three go-to recipes and possibly a fourth - next weekend I'm brewing an American Amber at my LHBS as a BIAB demo, if it turns out nice I'll do it again.

Pale and hoppy, no crystal. 1.042 OG. 64% Pale malt, 24% Vienna, 8% Wheat or Rye malt, 4% unmalted Wheat, Rye or Barley. 30 IBU bittering, 1g per litre flame out, 2g per litre dry hop. Various yeasts. Mixing it up. Best so far? Wheat malt, unmalted Rye, Cluster bittering, homegrown Chinook for aroma and dry hop, 1332 Northwest Ale yeast. So damn good. Peppery and hoppy and medium dry.

Super_simian, that's what I'd like to have as my house ale.
