Driving up tomorrow so trying to get organised, just need to sort some swaps out and decide which beer to bring as my competition entry! :?

Ade, can you recommend anywhere in Shipley or nearby that has decent beer, decent food and is child friendly on a Friday evening?

Well the http://www.aagrah.com is Shipley is good for Curry, not sure I can recommend a Kid-friendly place with food & beer.
http://www.donttelltitus.co.uk is good for food, just pick some stuff from their Tapas style menu but not really a beer or Child destination, its Close to Fannys Ale House https://twitter.com/FannysAleHouse which is a good little pub but again not really a place for kids as it gets very busy.
There is Thai Fever http://www.thaifever.co.uk in Shipley that is highly recommended by one of my bosses and Yoyo's http://www.eatatyoyos.com for more oriental food.

Hope that helps and sorry I couldn't be more help! :)

That's good enough thanks. 'Fannys' looks the place to go for beer! We found a good curry house there last year but I cant remember the name, it may even have been Aaagrah. If we get there early enough we may even venture further afield and find a pub out in the country somewhere, either that or we'll end up in a plastic pub with soft play and shit beer! :(

If you are looking for country pub.

http://www.thesquareandcompass.com/

Is very good and about 30 mins drive away. SUPERB beers and food, child friendly and a nice set of crags to walk up.

This one American does, anyway. :)

Seriously though, English Mild is very rare here, but can occasionally be found. The only nationally distributed ones I can think of are Goose Island, their winter seasonal is cleverly called "Mild Winter", and a brand called Magic Hat Plus/Minus. Try as I might, I've only found 5 milds to rate, and that includes the English ones that make it over here, like Cains!

More commonly, Milds are brewed by small craft breweries as a special-release or festival-only one-off. My favorite is Civil Life English Mild. Last week Civil Life introduced a 3.6% ABV Irish Stout, which struck me as a roastier dark mild. I'd sure like to see more mainstream Milds. But in the meantime, I'll just keep gleaning tips from you guys for brewing my own.
