Post by ArmChair » Wed Apr 17, 2013 4:16 pm

Can some one look over this for me please?

Going to give my own brew a go, and want to know if these figures look ok?

3600g Pale Malt 88%
370g Vienna Malt 9%
120g Torrified Wheat 3%

15g Tettnang 60min
13g Hallertauer 60min
15g Target 60min
15g Tettnang 30min
15g Target 30min
10g Tettnang 0min
10g Target 0min

Safeale US04

I have no idea what type of beer it is, but i do have these to use up.
I think most of you will just tell me to give it ago and see how it turn out :D

The grain bill looks fine but the mixture of the noble hops and Target seems off. I'd bitter with Target and then use the Hallertauer and Tett for the other additions. With Target being a higher alpha acid, it can carry the bittering just fine. The other two are more delicate and I'd afraid they'd get overshadowed. However, if you are just looking to use them up, then have at it! :-)

Thanks bazza,

So what hop bill would you do using the above amounts?

The same but swap the aroma hop additions to the end so they have a chance of coming through. They'll be drowned out totally otherwise. Noble hops are a lot more subtle and don't have the bang of those other hop monsters you list.

As above. For this mix I'd just use Target at 60mins.

same here, but also for me if you've got a cleaner fermenting yeast than S-04 i reckon that'd be better to let those noble hops shine against that lovely maltbill..
dazzled, doused in gin..

The yeast is the only thing I'm missing at the moment. My local homebrew shop only has packet yeast aswel.

So I guess from the replys above, I'm better going for something like

30g target at 60min
13g hallertauer 0min
15g tettnang
