No, that's the same capacity as mine - 6 gallons or around the 26/7 litre mark.

In fact mine is a Swan boiler just like those!

Shame the 6 gallon auction has ended, they've got a load of smaller ones
still available though.

One thing to watch out for is that some boilers have the element concealed beneath
a false bottom with holes in it. Fine when boiling only water but with wort + bits in
it then I could see cleaning being a problem. The smaller boilers on the ebay auction
have the concealed element!

Right - must have misundertsood your last post...

I think I'll drop the guy a message and see what he has. I could always cut some copper mesh to make it easier to remove any trub etc. :D

Hey three pips!!!

Also Andy,

I'm thinking that your exploits with a Swan tea urn might make an excellent artivle for the main site, so keep us posted as to your experiences using it... :D

It looks as though there are 30 six gallon boilers for sale. £30 bid at the moment.

Edit: Duh! "0 available".

<_<

Will do!

As you mention, worth Emailing the ebay guy as he was selling the 6 gallon (gallom!!?) urns for £30 + postage, which is a *bargain*. I think he's got the auction price wrong though and pulled the auction - the smaller urns are now listed for £75 which ain't so good. Still worth an Email :D

Edit: Keep us posted Reg if you're successful with the boiler man!

Ohhh, Mr B you cynic :D

To be honest, getting any form of guarantee on ebay goods is pretty rare, let alone something for £30 which retails at about £100 more than that B)

I would have snapped his arm off! Looking at his feedback it would appear that some people did get the boilers for £30 so I guess he didn't pull the auction due to pricing error...

Good hop strainer tip BTW !

Well I'm hoping he'll come back if he still has them. I think £30 is not a bad punt. :P

Well I have done a few grain brews although I've grown up in a family where money meant we made much of our own beer and wine during the 70s when methods were primarily based around extracts and concentrates.

But I have a sneaking ambition to make myself a miniature Yorkshire stone sqaure out of an old butler sink and try some traditional nothern top yeasts. I'm even tempted to try and make a small Burton union out of kegs, but I need to brush up on my general grain technique first... :D

It's a bit of a bible, my edition is ancient and much annotated, but I really think it may be possible to make a simple square in this way. :D

Reg - please post back if that guy has more to sell. I would just be interested in this as an HLT.

Collected my boiler tonight and it's in great nick - will bung some descaler in overnight to remove the small amount of scale but looks like £26 well spent!

I'll get some pics up soon.
