Any suggestions for a recipe for Castle Rock Harvest Pale
Any suggestions for a recipe for Castle Rock Harvest Pale
I really, really (I mean really!) like Harvest Pale produced by Castle Rock (now owned by the excellent Tyne Mills pub chain). I appreciate it may be abit of a local brew but I wondered if anyone has come up with a clone for this very pale session beer. Cheers.

Rather a nice brew but I've never found a recipe. They do brewery trips so might be worth going on one.
Surely have to use Nottingham yeast

I was given a recipe a couple of years back by a friend of a friend of a secret source within the brewery. It worked out at 90 IBU which worried me in a 3.8% beer! There may have been some Chinese whispers going on somewhere down the line.
Consequently I adapted it a bit and made this for a party...
I believe Castle Rock use the Hardy Hanson yeast but I used wlp001 and dry hopped with a mixture of the 3 hops.
It turned out really well. Very similar to Harvest Pale but with a little more bite.

Intersting. I camp out at the Vat and Fiddle on the increasingly rare occassions that I manage to get up to watch Forset play and am a big fan of Harvest Pale, very interested in the hopping schedule and I shall give that a go. cheers

They recently did a one-off experimental Harvest Pale "Premier Cru" which was the same beer but at 5.1%. Didn't work as well for me.
I think the low ABV combined with high bitterness and intense citrussyness is what makes it stand out.

Interesting, I drink this a lot but never ever have picked up the Cascade!

I will indeed!Swoonara wrote:They recently did a one-off experimental Harvest Pale "Premier Cru" which was the same beer but at 5.1%. Didn't work as well for me.

My idea is based on the fact that the cask version is 3.8% while the bottled version is 4.2% , which doesn't seem to affect the balance too much but my preference is for the cask version flavourwise, with the slightly higher strength of the 4.2% to aid its keeping properties.
I would aim for IBU's in the 50-55 region for the 1042 OG which I think should give the desired effect
Cheers!
