First Belgian recipe critique please.

Post by Scotty » Tue Apr 23, 2013 11:09 am

I've knocked this recipe up as something to brew soon...

Belgian Blond for 23l

Pale Malt - 4.4kg (Haven't got any Pilsner)
Sugar - 0.6kg
Aromatic Malt - 0.3kg
Wheat Malt - 0.3kg

Saaz - 24.3 IBU at 60mins
Saaz - 1.4 IBU at 5mins

Yeast - T-58

OG - 1.062
IBU - 25.7
EBC - 14.8

Thoughts?

I think it looks great. My only improvement suggestion would be to try to find some liquid Belgian yeast if you can. I find T-58 to be lacking in the Belgian character I get from the various liquid yeasts.

Cheers bazza, I would go the liquid yeast route but I tend to brew 'ad hoc'. Dried yeast is easiest for me. I've got some S-33 too if that would be any good?

I think I replied to your other post then with the same comment. :D

I like the recipe though. I'd brew that!

Yeah, I noticed! I think for my first go, I'll try the T-58 and if I like it then great, if not then I'll move on.

Cheers for the advice!

Absolutely. The best way to make these determinations is to just try things and decide what you like. My tastes may be completely different. Good luck to you!

I've found T-58 gives a very distinctive Belgian Flavour, more so than some liquid yeasts.
