Does anyone collect and dry their own? Is there anything I should know before embarking on a shoreside ramble?
Happy to have found this place.
Irish Moss/carrageen
Biddy early, Irelands first brewpub collects it from a local beach in the west of Ireland, if you mail them they maybe able to advice you on collection and drying

What about Hilden they started up in 1981, unless of course Biddy early are only claiming the title for the republic.oblivious wrote:Biddy early, Irelands first brewpub
Either way its shameful that the first one up here was 1981 and the first down there 1995 guiness/diageo have a lot to answer for.
Hi Goban
Why?
I'd understand if you were wanting to move back further towards the start of the beer making process by, say, growing your own hops, or malting your own barley, and being able to tell the difference in the finished beers, but sourcing your own Irish moss? I can't see that it's worth the hassle for all the difference it would make to the beer (zero). Cost saving can't be an issue either, as it's so cheap, unless....you live right on the beach.
It's a little like mining your own Gypsum!
