I got better efficiency doing batch sparge

Recipe was based on 65% comming out at 1045 after boil for 13 lt.
Northern brown ale.
2710 - pale malt
160 - crystal
115 - special b
70 - torrified wheat

17g - goldings 90 min boil
11g - goldins last 15 min
22ibu
mashed a 67
muntons gold yeast.

But I got 1052 and did'nt even have to top up with water as I got about 13.5 lt :D .
I collected about 20lt from the sparge and the last run off was 1014.
I dont know if im in the right ballpark but is that 75% efficiency.

I think the advantage is that batch sparging is it's so easy. If you can do a perfect fly-sparge you can probably get better efficiency but with batch sparging you can hit 75% without even trying.

I don't think I'll ever bother going to fly sparging - after all I'm not trying to make a profit here :)

Who cares about efficiency? It's all about taste as far as I'm concerned!

I'm not saying efficiency is the most important thing, it's just a nice feeling when you get better efficiency than from the last batch,and it show's you must be doing a bit better than last time,also it must be better of not having to add plain water to reach the final volume, you might correct me on that as I've always had to add plain water to reach my final volume and dont know if there'll be any different.

I agree, the finished product is the main thing but I always measure my efficiency not so I can be a cheapskate on grain it's just so that I can learn how doing things differently will effect my OG, hopefully i'll stablise my method and get a stable brewhouse efficiency which will help when formulating recipies.
