Have I Got Everything?

Post by dan_olo » Sun May 27, 2007 3:07 pm

Just about to order all the stuff I need for my first homebrew from Hop & Grape... thought I better check with the experts to see if I've missed anything obvious out. What do you think?

1 x 5 gal fermenter with tap
1m 8mm syphon tubing
1 x hydrometer
1 x budget barrel

and most importantly...

1 x John Bull Masterclass IPA kit

Thanks!

Something for sanitising (VWP etc) would also be good and a hydrometer jar

I'm not familiar with John Bull IPA but assuming it's a single can kit substituting the sugar needed for a Kilogram of spray malt (2 x 500g bags of Muntons Spray Malt) seems to be the way to go for a quality brew.....

Hope this helps

Sound good, Dan. You may want to think about some kind of CO2 injection system, though. It can be frustrating to get part way through a barrel of booze and find that you can't get the rest out because there's no gas pressure left (though if you only pull a couple of pints a day, you'll probably be alright).

Good luck with your brew!

EDIT: I must learn to type faster!

Thanks for that, had completely forgotten about sterilising stuff! Is there an all-in-one type steriliser which makes it nice and easy to use?

On the CO2 front, I've ordered the budget barrel with CO2 injector valve... and then planning to use CO2 canisters from the homebrew section of my local Wilko's. Was assuming these would be the same size but I guess its best to check...

He'll be okay as the Masterclass kits are all malt and don't need any additional fermentables - they come in a big fat 3Kg can.
