DAAB - Not planning on using an end stop, I meant one of these chappies:-

"Fitting Reducers
Male Copper x Female Copper
Male end fits inside a fitting"



The male end (without solder ring) is sized to fit *inside* the tee piece
with the 10mm microbore then passing through it and then soldered in
place via the solder ring on the other end of the reducer. So in your diagram
above the copper tube length on the right between tee and 'normal' reducer is not required.

So it's like a normal reducer except the larger end fits inside a fitting rather
than around pipe. The extra length of copper at t'other end of the tee was something
I had in mind also to take the plastic piping away from the solder heat zone

Yah sorry - posted the wrong picture above, meant to show the end feed version of that fitting i.e. no solder ring on the 10mm end. This would then mean having to solder the 10mm end of that fitting in situ. I take your concerns onboard re: heat near an already soldered joint and will think about which way I go.

OK, ordered a whole load of bits and pieces today off t'interweb for my CFC and
mash tun manifold so construction should start soon - and hopefully a brew will
follow without too much delay

I was thinking either the T. Taylors Landlord clone from the Wheeler/Protz book or the "Carolines Ale" from the other Wheeler book. Both use just pale malt and hops.

I live about a mile from a microbrewery who sell crushed grain for a pretty good price so I think I'll be buying from there. They also supply live yeast to homebrewers for a small charity donation

Grrr, turns out that the "next day delivery" from BES Ltd from where I've ordered the bits and pieces for my CFC and mash tun manifold is actually going to be "next week delivery". They forget to mention on their site that the courier they use doesn't actually start work again until next Tuesday. Should have expected trouble ordering at this time of yr I guess.

DAAB - the Wheeler book I have doesn't list a specific type of pale malt for Landlord.

Have you brewed the Caroline Ale ?

Made the tee sections of the CFC this afternoon - this soldering lark is harder than it looks, even with solder ring fittings! The blow lamp I got from B&Q kept flaring up and going out whenever it got a wiff of flux-vapour, not good! The first tee had one leak in it which was fixed eventually by adding solder bodge style (it's not pretty). The second one had no leaks though and looks much better

Glad you got it sorted in the end, Andy. You need to let a blow lamp warm up for a couople of minutes after lighting it, otherwise it does tend to go out, especially if you need to tilt it to direct the flame where you want it.

So have you shoved your pipe up the hose yet (if you'll pardon the expression)?

Pretty easy to put together on me tod. Outlet jacket tested under pressure and doesn't leak !

10m of reinforced 5/8" ID PVC pipe with 10m of 10mm OD copper through it.

Just need to tidy up microbore end lengths and trim back ziptie ends if I can be bothered

I've also got a lever ball valve to put on the water inlet stub so I can vary the cooling water throughput at the coil.
