Hillbilly brew day 28/5/07

Post by Horden Hillbilly » Tue May 29, 2007 9:41 am

Ok, I know I am a day late in posting this , I thought I would share this recipe and post some piccies. It is a 5 gallon batch, I estimate a gravity of 1044 based on 79% effiency, mash and boil times were 90 mins.

Pale Malt 3392g
Crystal Malt 352g
Amber Malt 264g
Wheat Malt 264g
Torrified Wheat 176g
Target hops start of boil 44g (42 EBU)
Goldings hops 18g last 15 minutes.
Goldings hops 8g end of boil, soak for 30 minutes.
Gervin ale yeast.

The brew first thing this morning. I achieved an OG of 1043, not going to complain about that!

Thanks for the nice comments chaps.

RTD, yes it is a 10 gallon boiler, I have never done a 10 gallon brew though! I am safe in the knowledge that there is no chance of the wort spilling over the top no matter how vigorous things get inside there!

No need to on this one, though I normally either skim or transfer to another fv after 48 hrs, if you look at the photo you will see that there is a small brown deposit on the very top of the fv, the rest of it is on the lid, it has took off like a rocket!

Yes, it would help if I actually posted the photo!
