Citra and/or Cascade

Post by AnthonyD » Fri Jul 12, 2013 7:29 pm

I'm just quaffing another of Oakham Ale's fantastic Citra beers and it got me thinking about potential recipies.

Does anyone have one that maybe uses a bit of Cascade too? A nice summery pale ale, a bit of wheat malt perhaps too?

It's probably just my dodgy brewing skills, but I've had a couple of goes at a Citra/Cascade brew and it's never turned out right. I've done Citra and Cascade single hoppers which have been lovely, but I've never managed to get them to mix nicely.

Take any Citra recipe you like and add a relatively smaller addition of Cascade at 30 or 40 minutes remaining, no Cascade later to counteract with Citra's superior aromas. A (potentially, anyway) very nice combo.

I can recommend all citra in the boil/whirlpool/stand and an all cascade dry hop - although mine was NZ cascade which might have helped. melded very well imo

1.046
1.012

92% MO
3% oats
5% torrified wheat

15 min - 20g Citra
5min - 30g citra
80C stand for 30min - 50g citra

dry hop 66g nz cascade

US05 yeast

Going to have a couple this afternoon as reward for mowing the lawn :o
