Summer Quaffer with elderflowers

Post by Matt » Fri Jun 01, 2007 11:29 am

Planning this for Sunday/Monday and grateful for any suggestions on tweaking or thumbs up if it looks OK (I have halved the amount of fresh elderflowers from the CBA article as the IBU's are just under half the recipe in the article).

4.2kg MO
100g Special B
100g T Wheat
100g Flaked Barley

83g Styrian Golding (4%AA)
20g EKG (5.6%AA)
both last 20 mins.

20g fresh elderflowers last 5 mins

15g Amarillo dry hop (may omit if the elderflower aroma is subtle)

Safale S-04

Based on 68% eff
Beertools makes it 18.4IBU, 3.8% alc

(I'm using up various quantities of hops left over, can you tell  )

Cheers,
Matt

i think you've probably got the right amount of elderflower providing you just want it as a background taste, i put too much in mine and it was a bit overpowering!

let me know how it gets on, i'm going to be giving elderflowers another go again.

Well, I did this today and just pitched onto 22 litres @ 1044 (target was 1038. I had also added 100g of Amber malt but I think my eff is a little better than I thought).

I had frozen my elderflowers and I couldn't smell anything at all from them during/post boil - does it come through during fermentation?

I'll let you know how it goes ltp and ck.

Cheers,
Matt
