Brewday 01/06/07 BlackJack Stout

Post by louthepoo » Fri Jun 01, 2007 9:24 am

I'm gonna be doing a stout in memory of my grandad Jack who's funeral we had yesterday :(

There will be pics but they'll be off the camera on my mobile phone as i still haven't had my camera back  so you'll have to wait as i've gotta find the lead to connect it to the computer

23 Litres

4kg Pale Malt
500g Crystal malt
500g Flaked Barley
500g Roast Barley
250g Chocolate malt
250g Black Malt

100g Fuggles

Safale S-04

No idea on efficiency, OG or FG will just do it and see what it comes out like!!

didn't start too well, i forgot to clean the equipment out after the last brew, only just finished cleaning and steralising it all!

Brewing delayed but its gonna be a good one - the suns shining, SWMBO is out all day with friends and i've got my list of what do do and when all written down (not having another cock up like last time!)

Only just - i've just poured a pint of my last brew - Town Liar :D

i haven't let that one alone enough to mature properly i've just been drinking it - there's only a little bit sloshing around in the corni at the moment :(

I'm doing 3 brews in the next 2 weeks so i can stock up, i keep running out! :(

BlackJack is mashing nicely at 66 deg so i'm gonna pop down the butchers and get some lamb for sunday dinner =P~

well i've bought the lamb :D sparged off the wort and now its boiling away.

I only had 86g of fuggles instead of the 100g i thought i had

Its pretty pain free at the moment, hopefully in an hour and a half i should be done :D ........to mow the garden :(

finished! i've managed to get 24 litres at OG 1052,

I dont know if thats meant to be good or bad but as long as it tastes good i dont mind :D

On the down side, i finished off the Town Liar whilst brewing todays BlackJack so i'll have to pop down Morissons and pick up some bottles....I fancy Snecklifter, Rigwelter, Hobgoblin and one of the Badger range but not Blandford Fly - this has got to be the worst beer i've ever tasted, i had 2 sips and chucked it away - disgusting :-&

The efficiency could work in your favour for this recipe I reckon, as hopefully there will be less chance of tannin extraction. Plus if it gets lower than 1016 it'll be a 5%+ beer. Nice work :)

There's nothing worse than coming to the end of a corny, just as the beers starting to taste great....not green :?

More reason for more corny's

My excuse anyway

I know i said to SWMBO that i've got to get another couple of cornys before the baby arrives or i wont have the money to do it then!

The last couple of pints were excellent, i should have waited for it to mature, another reason for getting more cornys! :D
