Priming amounts for Wilkos Pear Cider

Post by suitsyousir » Wed Jul 31, 2013 5:05 pm

Hi all, I binned the instructions before noting the amount of sugar to prime with. Can anyone help please? I am looking for a fizzier magnums/bulmers style finish rather than a flat scrumpy style finish, and will either batch or bottle prime, not decided yet. I will use normal granulated sugar.

Thanks in advance.

Per bottle? Usually 1tsp per bottle.

No sorry I meant I copied and pasted the thread to this room, and didnt look for an answer in that room. Thanks for the info WalesAles.

Im going to go for 100gms to hopefully get a bit more fizz and hope I dont get bottle bombs like I did with the cherryade lol!

Or, do you reckon a teaspoon per pint bottle will be enough or too much?

Ive just bottled one of these. 140g for 20ltr seems to have worked out just right. 80g would only give you an ale like carbonation.

I went for the safer option of 100gms batch primed for 40 pints. If its too flat I will no for next time.

Not tried it yet, its still a bit cloudy and me and the missus are on a mini health kick for a month, so will taste in another fortnight. Hopefully will be cleared by then.

It's perfectly carbonated but has an odd floral taste to it which I can't stand so I'm not drinking it.

not a good report for this one I am afraid. I have made it following the instructions and following the same sterilising routine I adopt on every brew. Its either off or just tastes horrible. Its fully cleared now and I tried one at the weekend. I had two sips and had to sling the rest of the bottle down the sink. It reminds me of a very poor kit I bought on a special offer from another (now long gone forum/store), its not quite vinegary, but has that sour taste. I have a Wilkos 2 can blond ale fermenting at the moment and if that turns out ok I doubt it will be a cleaning/sterilising issue, more of a crap kit issue. Luckily I only paid £5 for it when it was on special.

I found that with the forest fruit cider, took a couple of months sitting before it was OK, although it more less shite than OK.
