New Shiny Build Alert!

Post by greenhouseuk » Mon Sep 09, 2013 11:38 pm

It's been a while, but I've finally started.

Lacor 100l pot supplied by Barneey

Controversially, I'm going to suspend my false bottom (as supplied by Mr Lard) on top of stainless bolts which I have drilled holes for above my elements.

Holes also drilled for 2 Elements, Thermometer, Drain and Liquor-In

Mash Tun

80l Thermopot sourced from the usual lot in Germany

Holes drilled for Thermometer, Drain, Water-in

I am going for a gravity set-up and as such this allows me to avoid the drilled down elbow squeezed in under the drain. This pains me because aesthetically this has always been my ideal...

Instead I will drill holes in the shelves I am constructing.

Tool kit

I was a nervous wreck before I started drilling - you just need to take the bull by the horns.

I used Starrett 21mm and 40mm cutting tools. The 6mm bit on these is not bad but I found drilling out before hand with a 3mm cobalt HSS bit was a good idea and I actually ended up also pre-drilling with an 6mm Alpen Profi-Multicut.

The essential thing is to keep whatever bit you use cool to avoid stainless steel from sticking to it and blunting it. I started using proper cooling spray but took advice from my local hardware shop that water could be used (care!).
