Hi I feel embaressed to ask this :oops: Having decided to come back to brewing after a lay off i have come across some old stuff with my brewing gear and dont know if its usable. its a brewers choice best bitter with a bbe 30 june 2005 and muntons beerkit enhancer bbe 30 april 2006.

They should be fine, but it would be advisable to replace the yeast in the Brupaks kit. 8)

I've used old yeast, but you're better safe than sorry!

From what I understand bitter kit/tin will be ok, but you will need a new yeast sachet.

Dunno about the beer kit enhancer (BKE), but in any event, having just used it to make up a batch and then tried it from primary, I think using 100% spray malt as opposed to BKE is the way forward - the BKE, being a mix of sugar and spray malt, imparts dodgy flavours :shock:

You could always boil up the old yeast as nutrient for the new yeast rather than simply just binning it - Waste not want not!

My Bupaks Linthwaite Light was around 8 years old and 5 years out of date (iirc) and that went perfect although I didn't use the yeast that came with it but ended up using it in another brew anyway - which worked too. :lol:

Me thinks Home Brew technology has come a long way since the eighties. :roll:

Throw it all in and see how it is.
If it's good then great, but if it's bad then at least you've not spent anything :wink:
