Hi!

I'm think to my next brew: a double IPA. Something like the Double Sunshine IPA:

It call for Citra hops, but I cant get it in Switzerland. What substitute can I use? Simcoe, Cascade, Amarillo? A mix of several?

Thx for your feedback.

Hoppy regards!

For me it would be a blend of Simcoe and Cascade. Not amarillo. I'd go maybe 75:25 Simcoe:Cascade. It won't taste the same but I've always gotten a little bit of Simcoe flavour from Citra beers.

The for your quick reply. Why not Amarillo? Simcoe + cascade can't be wrong...

Amarillo is a great hop, but for me its less like citra than the other two and has too much spicy/fruity flavour that I find quite distinct. While Citra is fruity, it's not the same type of fruit for me. Of course others may disagree. I'd welcome other opinions.

I don't think many hops have the mango tones of Citra. Amarillo is more floral some orange/grapefruit, but Citra is extremely distinctive. If you can get hold of some Mandarina Bavaria, you could try 3/4 of that with 1/4 of Simcoe, but it will be more orange than mango.

I agree with Cascase / Simcoe combination. I would add Centennial to that list too.
