Re: The Bread Maker
I`m still waiting on the ballvalves / locknuts / T pieces to arrive. Another member has / will be donating a pump to power the thing and finally just waiting the arrival of the internal tube. As you can see the idea is very simple, the donor pot negates the need for any wiring - it should be fully controllable from 40c up to boiling point, the pump is mounted externally (albeit you could house it in the void where the element etc. is)
So if this does work it should be buildable by anyone.

Re: The Bread Maker
What have you used for the grain tube clive? I never got any further with the micro build I mentioned to you because I couldn't find something to fit.
Its coming though isn't it? Looks very nice!

Re: The Bread Maker
The tube is an original - just waiting for a copy to be made. The tube is the critical part of the build, if it works cant see any reason why a larger or smaller model couldn't be built.
If however the purpose fabricated tube falls flat I did have an eureka moment tonight and it might be possible to make something else to fit (home fabrication from another vessel), if not the Chinese might have to get involved in making it.
One way or another a sub £300 one pot is on its way.
The dream - everyone using the same pot = playing field levelled equipment wise = now concentrate on brewing the best beer ever ( at an affordable cost equipment wise again
) but at no gain to an individual party apart from the greater good of beer. (that & fermentation technique
) 10 pints me gone for the night

Re: The Bread Maker
Hi Barneey,
would you mind telling me how this prototype is going to work ? I have a spare 40 L buffalo boiler which I was going to keep as a backup for my propane .
but this bread maker idea
looks pretty good - maybe I could build one with my buffalo.
it looks like a one pot system you are a makin ' there which would make brewdays easy ?

Re: The Bread Maker
I`ll send you a PM
Basically though you fill it with water, switch on heat to 1st mash temp, insert middle tube fill with grain, switch on pump, liquid is then pumped from the side outlet to the two middle inlets on the bottom of the pot -this liquid flows through the grain - falls down the void between the pots and pumped around again. The thermostat can then be turned up to step mash etc. Once mash has finished left out tube, drain , set thermostat to boil add hops .....

Word has it that the latest barneey brewery controller has a secret instigate black hole button button fitted.Fil wrote:for all we know one of barneey's experiments could be the cause of the collapse, he probably has a mock up of the cern collider in his shed 1/2 built using old brewkit.

Re: The Bread Maker
Have a look at the first photo, there is a false bottom plate in the picture. One plate slides to the bottom of the tube held in place by the swage (lip) on the tube, the grain is then poured into the tube (the plate stops the grain coming out the bottom - without it you cant drain the grain) the top plate is loose but cant rise above the central piece of pipe (threaded at top + nut) basically the tube is a stainless brew in the bag. After mashing the tube is redundant to the rest of the process.
The pump takes wort from the void between the pot and the tube and squirts it up through the 2 outlet within the tube, the central pipe holds the tube in place - now think giant Rims tube.
So basically instead of having a 3V setup with Rims tube....... you have a single pot with a tube. With this example its fully manual in operation the pump and thermostat control being done by hand + stopwatch.
Again though this is only an experiment to see if a DIY "meccano" build could be done, if it works I`ll more than likely "lend" it out to a few members for try the system out, I have no intention of making another one, after a couple of years messing around with the idea (mainly spurred on by Kev888) I finally want to complete something that works.
All the parts for the build are readily available via eBay, BES & ASAP - the tube is a specialist one off item.

Re: The Bread Maker
BES delivery arrived today, so am just waiting for a few washers before I can leak test.
This photo shows the now fitted ballvalves, the hop filter and two nuts on the inlets

This photo shows the plumbing in place under the pot.

Re: The Bread Maker
Got it!
So when in recirc mode you're pumping wort from the "hop filter" outlet and in through the base tap, which flows into the grain tube via the silicone hose shown and the 90 degree elbows. The grain is stopped from overflowing the tube via the top plate but wort is free to overflow the tube and run back down into the void, where it is pumped back into the tube again via the same process.
Correct ?

Re: The Bread Maker
Regarding the initial shots of the base:-
1. What was that central metal pillar which you removed ? Was that there for a cover plate to screw into to hide/protect the element wiring ?
2. I can see a thermostat probe (long, cigar type) bolted to the base and also a diamond shaped unit (bolted, adjacent to the central pillar). Is the cigar probe the main 'stat probe with the diamond unit a failsafe/cutout ?
