Hoppy Brown Ale

Brewed this today, shooting for a caramelly session ale with some decent hop flavour (bored of Mild)

OG 1043
IBU 37
Eff 70%

Mild ale malt 4kg
Wheat malt 250g
Amber malt 200g
Medium Crystal 150g
Choc malt 30g

Challenger 10g FWH
Challenger 60g 10 mins
Bramling Cross 70g 5 mins
Pilgrim 50g at turn off <80 degrees

Nottingham yeast (I made a wlp002 starter but decided it was too sluggish to commit my brew to)

Two litres of first runnings reduced to 650ml in a non stick wok over 45 mins and added to the boil (tasted like malty golden syrup).

Something to look forward to in Feb

Looks good Matt, we'll have to meet up at Faversham homebrew shop and do some swaps.

That would be good, I've got high hopes for this one so fingers crossed. Would love to try some of your Brown Rabbit if you have any at the time.

I bottled some on Monday, I've got so much in at the moment I should have some left. It's in pubs at the moment but Mad Cat called it "Thanksgiving winter warmer"

Pilgrim hops at flame-out, eh? I don't think I've seen that before, please let us know how you like those aromas. Nice kettle-caramelization step there too.

This looks like a beer I could drink and drink and drink. Cheers!

Cheers Seymour, yep in a recent similar brew the Pilgrim at flame out addition added a grapefruity nose, quite subtle though. Gonna dry hop this with more and some bx.

Big rocky head today, just skimmed the nasty stuff off it.
