Based on that pallet rate, i'd only have to order 3 sacks of malt to be saving money on my LHBS prices so I guess thats actually worth considering.

Thanks for all the input on here,
One big reason I started brewing is to save money - but I have to say it has become a very enjoyable hobby & if I suddenly became wealthy I would almost certainly continue brewing !
I will use the info on here to try & get my "best ale" down to under 35p

Those are some excellent hop prices at brewers select... At 1.50 ish per 100g I'm starting to think a bale of chinook might be a nice xmas present to myself

You can save an awful lot of money by growing hops. They grow worse than weeds.... This along with yeast was my biggest expense, not the grain, and now I rarely buy them. Barley, mmmm... Its my thing to malt my own but my efficiency is low. I get 40% as opposed to my normal 70% plus, but grain is cheap. I will have to get the price per pint but it must be about 6 quid for grain (worst case scenario) for 80 pints. (25kg of barley here is about 12 quid, so lets use half a sack as grain is cheap!) Yeast nothing, hops nothing, leccy and gas say 2 quid a brew. So 8 quid for 80 pints which is 10 p a pint. Correct me if I am wrong as I am a tad pissed lol. What this does not cover is my time malting. But malting is actually ok.
I like the autonomy and the control I have over my barley, but I appreciate a lot of people would think I am losing the plot lol. Sub

I planted 2 bines this time last year ! they came up well, but as expected they dont give any yield in 1st year, good to hear they grow like weeds !
I am hoping for 1 - 1.5 kg each roughly - should be worth about 80 quid each if I am lucky next summer !
