How to keg my Brupaks IPA

Post by Mther » Sun Dec 15, 2013 9:34 pm

Hi guys,

I brewed my IPA on the 10th of this month but I would like to keg it by the 20th in order to drink it ALL on Christmas day!!!

I have never kegged before and I dont have a kegerator, so I will store my keg outside were the ambient temperature is lower than my fridge (9C against 6C - I love Scotland for that)!

Questions:
1) My fermentor has already the hops I used for boiling inside (not long maybe 20 mins of hoptea). I will discard them tomorrow (16/12 - day 7) and add 60 more grams of fresh hops(not fresh from the garden, I mean new, not used:p - me and my damn english language skills). The beer will be dry hopped until the 20th. However on the 19th I will move the fermentor outside to chill the beer (they say it is easier to force carbonate cold beer). It will be good to clear the beer as well. Do you think the beer will be ready for the christmas day if I force carbonate on the 20th?

2) how do I do it? Do I put the beer in keg, force co2, release valve to kick out the oxygen, and then put it at 10 psi until christmas day?

Thank you!!!

I presume you're using a Corny given you talk of Force carbing? I personally haven't got any experience of cornies but would be surprised if your brew is clear enough and ready to drink in such a short timeframe. (Caveat - no experience of cornies hence might be missing something here!)

Thanks GavH!

Yes it is a corney! I have never tried a beer in such a short period, I am not bothered if it is a bit cloudy really... I don't know... Has anyone tried something similar?

10 days to ferment, I presume you've been taking Hydrometer readings to be sure that fermentation has finished? Crash cooling sounds like a plan but beyond that I can't help I'm afraid. I'm keen to see how this turns out. Pics of the finished (or unfinished!!) product would be interesting. Good Luck.
