xlr sockets should fit in a similar sized hole??
male xlrs need a 20mm hole, female 25mm give or take a mm depending on make, the rectangle body size varies depending on make and type/range,but are around 22x36mm for males and 27 x 36mm for females, from memory dins are an 15mm hole and are 20mmx30mm at the widest points. Im waiting to see whos brave enough to use these on there build http://www.neutrik.co.uk/en-uk/xlr/crystalcon/

Whoa- what the hell    Those XLRs are just madness!

Nice build, Setmash- I've got a long term plan to ponce-up my brewery, using Neutrik connectors. Keep the updates coming!

Cheers,
Jamie

setmash wrote:Base plate connector position test - wow i cut that one fine. These connectors are lovely though. The black one on the right is 32A (8Kw rated to drive my 5.5 Kw elements) rated and the one on the left is 20A rated. I will have 2 x 32A for HLT and Kettle 5.5KW elements, 4 x 20A for 4.5KW RIMs element, 2 x chugger pumps and an output to FV heater. I also have 8 x 5 pin DIN for all the temp probes and various inputs - HLT, Kettle, RIMs OUT, Mash, float safety switches on kettle and HLT, RIMs flow safety switch and Emergency stop button. There are a few spares for expansion. Im not too keen on the DIN connectors, they look a bit 80's - should of gone for something a bit nicer - not that it will matter when everything is plugged in !

Here is the bottom panel populated with all the connectors. Its not yet painted and I may change the screws to something nicer. You can see how dense it is though.

Got me thinking now ,I will need to consider a control box/panel for my setup do these connectors lock in place or just a push fit?

do these connectors lock in place or just a push fit
they lock, put em in and a quarter turn to lock,to release pull back the metal slidey bit and twist. However i prefer the newer powercon true1 http://www.neutrik.com/en/lighting/powe ... con-true1/

All the 32A and 20A connectors lock in place. They are superb quality. Thanks for all the inputs regarding the DIN connectors - really appreciate it. Im afraid I packed them in so tightly i cant fit in XLR's - XLR are just too wide. The upside is I have checked the mated DINs and they are very tight - not much chance of them coming out and they wont be unplugged that often so wont wear loose either. Im peed off about it and would defo switch to XLR if I could but im stuck with what I have unless i make a new base plate which is a hell of a job. I may do it when i get some more time.

Ive had 30 mins play time with the BCS...wow im impressed so far. I managed to play around with the HMI graphics builder and put together a very quick representation of all my Inputs and outputs in one diagram. I took this pic which shows the power of this system...on the left is my smart phone, 10 inch tablet and laptop all displaying and controlling the BCS wirelessly at the same time. The BCS was actually at the other end of the house whilst I was doing this....this will give me a lot of flexibility when it comes to controlling/monitoring the brewery from the living room or bedroom etc.

Setmash. I have used these on my brewtroller build. They lock in place and the mounting is a nut on the rear of the chassis unit. I initially got a few from cedatronics before he packed in but needed more so found them on ebay.

Aviation 3 pin plug and socket.

Thanks Bob - Im on it , will let you know how i get on.......

My control panle has now been drilled and sprayed (3 attempts spent more on paint than i did on the box lol) I dont have all the LEDs etc yet so not fully populated but you can see how its going to look...very electric brewery.....

The control box front panel consists of:

Master key switch
Master push switch
All 240V outputs off push switch
Voltmeter
Amp meter (essential for power budget)
LED for liquid level in HLT - Bi colour Red liquid is too low element cant fire, Green liquid OK element enabled
LED as above for Kettle
LED for RIMs - Green OK element can fire (Pump must be on, flow sensor must register flow.
LED for FV - Tri colour - Blue - cooling, Red heating , Green its happy
LED for elemnt on in HLT, RIMs and Kettle
LED for liquor Pump on
LED for Wort pump on

Finished strengthening the brew stand and did a full weight test - all three inverted kegs filled - 220Kg, here are the boys on display :-)

Image

I designed the brew stand so that the kegs fit between the rails so they cant move forward or backwards - seems to have worked really well...

Back panel is now fully drilled and started installing a few components. The BCS is the blue box. Wiring will start at the weekend if i get time. Think i may have located some better connectors as suggested, still investigating. Ive started my own TTL logic circuit build (even did a truth table lol). Its been a few years since i soldered my own components on to a vero borad....my soldering skills are pants (i put it down to this new lead free solder rubbish)...

I managed to dig some of the old stuff out and suddenly my skills improved....however it didn't help with the fact that my eye sight has seriously gone down hill since I last soldered down an AND gate lol

I have an issue. I need some advice.

I did a brew today and used the kegs as HLT and MT (with new false bottom) to test a few things out before i start drilling - i learnt a lot. Howver i found an issue. I had a lot of grains dragged through the false bottom in to the kettle, ive never had that issue before (old rig used dip tube). I have not installed my RIMs yet it was a standard sparge (insulted the MT keg). I noticed that the holes on the new keg false bottom are larger than on my old rig. Im hoping RIMs solves this issue by filtering through the grain bed, does anyone have and advice on this ??

Kegs continue to impress - pump priming is a thing of the past !!

Wort is very murky but most of the grain seems to have been caught by the hops in the kettle. Gravity readings bang on so im hoping its drinkable.
