Next weekend is the first of a few one hop brewdays already planned for 2014. I will aim for the same grist and yeast each time so i can play with different hops.
I thought i would make another attempt at one I did a couple of years ago. I had actually forgotten about this one. More about that later.
So here we go.
Northern lights American pale ale
25 l expected abv 5.2%
Expected OG 1050 expected SG 1010 mash based on 75% efficiency.
Colour 14.6 EBC 33.3 IBU
Fermentables
4510 g Pale malt
430 g Munich 10
320 g Light crystal
320 g Torrified wheat
Hops
Columbus to 20 IBU as FWH
Columbus to 8.6 IBU as 10 minute addition
Columbus to 4.5 IBU as 5 minute addition
20 g Columbus for a nice bath ( 20 minute steep) or for as long as it takes for me to wash the rest of the stuff and pack it away.
Yeast
In the absence of S-05 i will use Nottingham ( which i actually prefer anyway)
I made this a couple of years ago and gave most away except for one bottle and a corny. A guy at work asked if i had anything he could use for a small party he had so gave him the corny. A taste test 4 weeks after bottling was a little strange so i thought i would get rid of it! What a mistake

After about 3-4 months I found this bottle at the back of the garage, opened and it was totally amazing! flowers on the tounge, just smooth and wow. I planned to make it last year but other things always took priority, so this year!
All being well and based on last time thi will be cracking around May or June. Most will be bottled except for maybe a 10 l corny.
Commens welcomed, i will try to remember and get some pics to post a proper brewday for once.
thanks for looking.
