Maltose syrup/LME
So, what's the difference between these two? Both are around 80% fermentable. MS as such seems quite difficult to find. Is it malted from something other than barley?
Best wishes

It's made from either corn or rice I think. You can get it in chinese supermarkets for about £1 for 440g or so, so it's cheap
I'd just use proper malt extract for beer though.

Thanks for that Hanglow. It's just that according to Real Ale Almanac some beers, such as Draught Bass are brewed with it, so I thought I'd give it a try. Yes I've heard Chinese Supermarkets have it. At the price it's worth a look at.Hanglow wrote:It's made from either corn or rice I think. You can get it in chinese supermarkets for about £1 for 440g or so, so it's cheap

If you use it, make sure you warm it up. It's unbelievable how stiff (and sticky) this stuff is. Once you get the spoon into the stuff, it's almost impossible to get it off again.
I also didn't think it brought anything to the party in a mild I brewed and would probably just use DME. I always have some at hand for bottling.
Cheers

Yeah it's really, really sticky - much stickyier than LME or any other syrups
It won't add any flavour, just leave a bit of body that sugar wouldn't
