catering portal france

Post by captain caveman » Tue Jan 28, 2014 7:45 pm

So I emailed catering portal this morning to get a quote on some shiny pots. Rather disappointingly they have replied saying their management have decided no longer shipping to the UK, only Germany and Australia.
Obviously I have queried this. If they come back the same are there any alternatives?

You are correct, they have stopped any international shipping now and have also removed themselves from ebay.fr. A number of people have had the same response now.

Your options are now UK based it would seem.

homebrewbuilder.co.uk aka MrLard
themaltmiller.co.uk aka borischarlton
powellbrewing.co.uk

There may be others that I don't know about.

Are these the same people as I just had a pot delivered last week?

Yes. It's the same place. It appears they have stopped sending over here this week.

Plenty of stockpots and thermopots on alibaba, some with minimum orders of ten/twenty. Group buy them

maybe one of the homebrew-pot building sites already mentioned has made a deal with them, we can start pointing fingers, when they don't run out of stock and others do.

Make that Austria.

If you've ever compared the German [catering-portal] and French [catering-service-fr] ebay sites, the French site always sold with a buy it now price, but the German site always started at EUR 1,00 and let the bids rise. Pots used to sell for silly prices on the German site.

If you go to ebay Germany and search for Topf Edelstahltopf Edelstahl Kochtopf 100 and then check the box on the left for completed transactions [Beendete Angebote], you can see that 100L pots regularly sell for over EURO 100.00. They're getting a much better return on local sales, so that could be the reason behind it.

If local sales start to tail off or selling prices drop, then maybe they'll reconsider. Prices have held up pretty well for some years, so the situation doesn't look good for us.

Is there any harm in using aluminium stock pots? The west african food and housewares shops in peckham sell humungous ones for about 50 quid. Was considering this option...
