degassing with sankey coupler
Can you degass from a sankey coupler with beer in the keg?

They have a one way valve in the gas port . . .There are some (usually US in origin) that have a PRV in the bodybob3000 wrote:Can you degass from a sankey coupler with beer in the keg?
Remove the coupler, unscrew the fitting on the gas port, tip out the one way valve, screw the fitting back on, attach the coupler . . . job done
Remember Twist first , then engage . . . Beer is great for the hair

Re: degassing with sankey coupler
I bought a "degas" fitting from Barneey - I think it's an American couple that is like a Sankey but not quite, the beer-out doesn't quite engage with the spear. The result is that when you engage the coupler, the keg degasses through the beer-out port, without showering you with beer. I'm sure he can explain it a little better than I...

Ok, once the gas valve is removed is it ok just to leave it like that?

Re: degassing with sankey coupler
The gas valve (normally looks like a duck bill piece of plastic) is designed to prevent any liquid going back through the gas pipework.
If you want to degas a keg, BLANK off the liquid side of the coupler. Unscrew and remove the gas threaded fitting & connect the coupler any gas in the keg will be released. If you only want to degas a little place a stop valve on the gas outlet a 1/2" BSP tap will connect directly to a UK coupler.
As an alternative as sugguested above a "d" type coupler makes a very good degas unit.
OR just buy a coupler with a quick gas release built in. (this acts exactly like a corny keg gas release - so everything remains connected).
Have fun

Depending how much is in the keg, you can lay it on its side or turn it upside down & disconnect the beer line. So long as the gas is off & the end of the dip tube isn't submerged, it'll degas.
*EDIT*
This method carries a risk of a beer shower, should the dip tube become submerged!!

That sounds spine-tingly scary!bigdave wrote:Depending how much is in the keg, you can lay it on its side or turn it upside down & disconnect the beer line. So long as the gas is off & the end of the dip tube isn't submerged, it'll degas.
