Indeed, my boiler only cost me £23 so splashing out £30+ for a new element would be an @rse.

andy, may i ask how much liquid is lost during a typical hop boil?

just spent a fun filled evening cleaning the element :( must look just like yours now, most of the plating missing. had to use more force than i would have liked to remove the corrosion, but its looking a lot better for it. :)

Around 10-15% per hour, so quite a bit! Plus loss in the boiler when you drain the wort out (absorbed by hops etc). I now collect more wort during sparge than I can fit in the boiler and use this additional wort to top up the boiler near the end of the boil.

that much! a lot more than i thought. i'd better better keep in mind to also collect additional wort - when i eventually get brewing.

well impressed with your yeast webcam thing you did. haven't seen anything like it before.

I brewed last weekend. Started the boil with 27 litres in the boiler, had 21 1/2 litres left at the end of the boil.

So I lost 5 1/2 litres during a 90 min boil. How careless of me Image
