Hi all,
I need a bit of advice!
I have a spray ball from Brouwland that I never got around to using. Since I recently upgraded the equipment I thought I'd give it another go.

Is there anyone who can tell me how powerfull my pump needs to be in order to make this work properly?
I have a 8000 l/hr. max. lift 8m pump that makes it turn a bit, but I hardly think it will clean anything.

I bought a spray ball ages ago from Morebeer, never did get the thing working - I think Cooky has now got the thing and was trying an industrial sub pump with it - I don't know how he got on.

That looks very similar to the spray heads I use, you would be looking at no less than 2 bar pressure to rotate the head and no more than 10 bar.

Cheers
Any way that I can calculate the pressure from any given pump?

Can you get pressure washer pumps? I would imagine that is the type of power you need to perform any real 'cleaning' rather than simply a splash/rinse.

I might have to look into that.

Damn!
I have a top end pressure washer and it didn't even spin the ball.
I think they rely on very small nozzles to achive those high pressures.

If I get this calculator right, I need a pump that can deliver at least 20,456m head to achive 2 bar pressure.
(2 bar, SG=1)

I take it that your comma is a European style decimal point? as otherwise your pump with 20km head would be half way to pumping water to the space station

Yes
Went to the local hardware store yesterday, turns out they had a pump that had a 40m lift.
And boy does that spray ball spin now

I never did get on with it, wasn't a suitable test rig set up for me to get in and try it. Still have it, and after speaking directly to a few manufacturers came to the conclusion a smaller sprayball would have been better. Couldn't bear to go down mortens route at that price though, Wouldn't have seen £100 worth of use and would likely have ended up in a draw.

Morten, do you mind me asking how you getting on with this? I'm tempted to try the same...]
Scotia - where do you get your spray heads from? There doesn't appear to be too many UK suppliers...
Thanks!

I haven't tried it yet since there is still beer in the conical.
But will try to remember to get back to you when I try it out.

FMJ,
I have this one, it's okay, a bit plasticy in the 'hozelock' style, but it seems to work fine and was easy to buy from here.
http://www.agratech.co.uk/Hypro-Proclea ... 35120.html
The other bonus is that there is a good data sheet for the item !
http://www.hypro-eu.com/fileattachments ... ozzles.pdf
I do like the american shinny one over here
http://www.brewershardware.com/Rotating ... ction.html
I also have a £5 chinese-ebay shinny non-rotating thing, one has not tried with sufficient pressure, dunno link, dunno if its a thin/thick walled unit as that determines the spray droplet size.
.... still looking myself for a pump that is cheap, decent pressure/flow and rated above 35oC !!
