Wez I hope you have not overdone it so you can't hold your pint later on
Wort beating is very satisfying, though can be a pain in the wrist.

Yes.
How long should I aerate for? I went for a 5 min thrashing.

I'm hoping that is humor DaaB as Q has me a tad confused at the moment.

For the last four all grains I have made a 1 litre starter the night before with spraymalt, cooled it to 20 deg C and then thrown in a packet of dried yeast. I then stick a ball of cotton wool in the neck and leave it overnight. The next day at pitching time i shake the hell out of the 2 litre pet bottle first thing in the morning and again before chucking it in the fermenting bucket, no problems so far.

DaaB wrote:It's something I heard mentioned the other day and it kind of made sense, I think you'd have to aerate it a lot more than that to make a noticeable difference though, besides I wouldn't hold back on aeration for the sake of a shorter lag time, you will still get a very healthy fermentation from all that o2 so the effort isn't wasted, you may well find your reward is better beer.
Unless you are running a very big brewery(where time is money) why would lag time be of any concern?

Update 1, 1hr after pitching
Got loads of 'stuff' settle at the bottom (about 3/4") after 45 mins this started to rise to the top in large lumps! (see below).
BTW, before I start a Light Strike debate, in between pics the FV is covered by a thick black bag

Hi DRB, I ended up using 22g for 90 mins instead of 17g which according to BeerSmith will give an EBU of around 32. so not a huge difference, looking forward to trying this one, how does the colour look to you?

Hard to tell looking at that it makes the beer look darker than it really is.When it's in a pint glass it looks a golden colour.
Very quick to gurgle there tidy.

So no real lag time there Wez. Bubbling away by lunch time, thats a fine brewing day, and you still have time to"check"all your other brews
