And, unless your good lady happens to built like the proverbial soviet shot putter, is there not every chance that she may have inadvertently 'disturbed' the beer a little, on that long old journey?

I imagine that could very well knock up a bit of yeast .....
I did wonder that myself. I know her Dad was round that night so it could very well be that he moved it and swished it about in the process. It's now inside and will not be moved until it's empty!

You are in a world of hurt now Si!

well, the final bottle of my first stout done. i must say, these last lot have gassed well and taste so much better than at first, far to 'treaclely' for my palet. one more stout kit, exp date of 23/2/14 to use for second batch. may try different sugar next time. or maybe i used to much.

cracking brew though!

If you use different sugar next time, it won`t be a `Ditch`s Stout` . #-o

:-k Interesting ..... On his own thread, entitled " Off Stout ", JBB ends up saying:
jimmybobbird wrote:Has developed a slight acid taste as I go down the barrel but I am putting that down to the first use of the barrel.
Of course, as any of us who've used the odd keg would know; Properly washed and sanitised, this assumption would be complete bollocks. I've personally used anything up to Eight, brand new BK's and have never experienced anything like the above.

I feel I should also point out that ~ if I'm not mistaken? ~ Jimmy uses Milton.

What ever. The point of This post is to tell you that Ditch The Altruistic, in his eternal quest for the furtherance of truly understanding what can f**k a brew, has been pushing those boundaries yet again.

My latest challenge to the world of bad beer has been to not only continue syphoning directly from an open lidded FV. But, I'd even taken to simply pulling the syphon stick out of the FV I'd just finished. Then plunging it directly into the next FV. Not so much as wiping any crud off with my unclean fingers.

More; I've been heaving out the fish tank heater and dumping that ~ still dripping old beer and crud ~ straight into my next FV of wort. Surely enough to make many purists rake their own faces in horror?

Result? After about four such reuses of uncleaned (Let alone re sanitised) kit; I've just spent the last week drinking f**king Battery Acid!!! :out

Yeppers. Ditch The Strong of Heart and Stomach has Finally discovered that point at which a beer may be expected to simply give up and go foul on us. And, when it does? Acceeeeed!!! Nothing " Vinegar " about it. Nor did this vile shit give me a hang over. It just tasted horrible.

This is due to 'Unsanitary' equipment being used. F**k all to do with " Vinegar Fly " or arsey bacteria in the air. This is just acting like a tramp.

But, it Still took me about a Month to get that, vile, result! Image

What does This, potentially, tell us about the likes of Jimmy there, who produce similar stuff in days. Then blame their kegs?

Anyone else managed to produce battery acid? If so, How? I'd like to compare notes Image

This is how I work shit out. I don't just regurgitate shit I read in some book. I Just Do It.

In reference etc your last comment ditch, i'm exactly the same. Trial and errors how everything got started, and I've yet to have anything undrinkable.

I'm skeptical about 90% of the scare mongering that goes on the forums, and have yet to lost a batch to my non surgical approach to sterilisation etc.

But maybe I'm doing something wrong, as after 10 pints i'm always hungover.

Hmmm. Time to get the BK's rinsed out then ..... :-k

Just been in there and noticed a couple of tiny flies on the lip my currently in use, thus open lidded, FV. The one I'm drinking from.

Now, the beer in there is great. It has been, under these conditions, all winter. But now though? I'm ready to consider those winged things to be 'The Gypsy's Warning'. I have two more FV's sitting in there. Full of my gear and lids just casually pushed down.

Air doesn't bother me ~ or my brews ~ an iota. But, even I am not willing to risk eight gallons of the best by deliberately exposing it to unidentified flying insect activity.

Conveniently then, we can mark our calendars to say; ' Start of April? Time to start sealing up those brews. Ye could be a fool not to '

Not very Ditchy.

1) It's in a bottle.
2) It's lasted 19 weeks and four days. Far beyond the expected lifespan of true Ditch's. ;)
Southern Brewing

FV 1 (5 gallon): Nothing
FV 2 (5 gallon): Nothing

Any more clip requests ....?

Was thinking; I'll be putting a couple more kits on tomorrow. Just wondered if there might be any other action that anyone might like to see demonstrated on a short bit of film?

I'd love to demonstrate how I rinse my sanitised FV's (Having already shown the sanitising) But, I only have the one pair of hands, and my little tripod. And the shower stall's out of the light. Doubt anything would show :(

Anything else I haven't thought of ....?
