Ow wow what a brew, made up a gallon using 1 bottle of melina plus 1L carton of asda forrest fruits plus 1 wilkos small bottle of red grape juice concentrate plus 500g of brew sugar. Wilkos general wine yeast.
Osg 1090 took 27 days of fermentation to reach fsg of 1000 = 12%
Tasted as I racked, wow brilliant. Rich red colour and clear as anything. 1 capden tablet added will now leave for about 10days and bottle.
Going to make up a 23L brew now, happy days

See my post on here from Feb 27th. I don`t add sugar at the start because the bottles have 65gr sugar in them.
This recipe never fails and is a lovely drink.

Hi Matt. Looks great, did you use water to top up? Can't really tell how much of this you made.mattwilson wrote:So I put this on tonight with the Ingredients below. In the interest of other people's potential interest I even took a hygrometer reading and it came out at 1.040.
Will update when ready.
3 bags of grated apples (£1 market offer)
7 x bottles syrup (4 raspberry, 2 pear) (£7)
250g sugar (50p?)
1 pack wine yeast (£1)
Am I also right in thinking that I could potentially make this in a 5L water bottle (and that I wouldn't need to sanitise the bottle first if shop bought)? I am a bit short on FV's and Demijons. In which case, would I still need a entire sachet of yeast?
Thanks
John
Re: Simple Cheap and Tasty, Raspberryade
I use 5L water bottles. When I get a new one I don't even bother to sterilise it. Just pour the water straight out and apple juice straight in.
Re: Simple Cheap and Tasty, Raspberryade
Looks good how many litres does this make? Is that a 23L bucket and made to 23L?Manngold wrote:Hi Matt. Looks great, did you use water to top up? Could I use water if I wanted to though? Or is apple juice a must have?Shaun21 wrote:I use 5L water bottles. When I get a new one I don't even bother to sterilise it. Just pour the water straight out and apple juice straight in.

I don`t know if this a wind - up or not, but I will reply anyway.
You need Apple Juice to make TC, water will not make TC.

No wind up. I honestly thought that the first post in this thread, mentioned the use of water? I might be wrong though. Will check!WalesAles wrote:Manngold,Manngold wrote:Could I use water if I wanted to though? Or is apple juice a must have?Shaun21 wrote:I use 5L water bottles. Manngold,
No problems, keep looking, keep learning, keep asking, keep brewing, we are always here to help!
Sorry if that sounds patronising but I have only been Brewing for 16mths so I am still new to this, but I think that my TCs are really good, my Beer Kits are
really good and if my input is of use to anyone then I will be happy!

Trust me, I appreciate all the help I can get! And I have pretty much no knowledge of brewing! I will aim to pick up 5l of Apple juice this weekend. Might do a comparison against another juice.
I. So excited about the possibility of brewing. Can't wait to start my next beer kit!

Manngold,
Please accept my sincerest apologies. I just re-read the first post and indeed it was water that was used!
I am going to get my 5Lt water DJ and make one of these right now. I have 4 bottles of Syrup always on standby!
Cheers.
Re: Simple Cheap and Tasty, Raspberryade
Well, I picked up three bottles of the stuff yesterday in Tesco's at a pound a pop. Might have to go back and clear the shelf!
I think I will try a water based one, and a aj one, and have a little comparison.
EDIT: Seen your post....in terms of Yeast, my local Wilko's sells the wine yeast, but not the nutrient, what is a nutrient based one, and can I buy in a supermarket,or is it really necessary?
Oh, and why do you add tea to yours, I had a read through your post and saw that you did. Does it add to the flavour? I guess you dont add any additional sugar because of the fruit juice?
One final question (for the moment (although I always think of more - I was the annoying kid at school)), when it comes to priming for this, is it ok to bottle? I will be doing it in a 5l water bottle, can I just pour into another 5 l water bottle? Can I bottle in 500ml bottles? Do I just pour from my crude demijon?
Thanks - sorry for the barrage of questions.

Re: Simple Cheap and Tasty, Raspberryade
Manngold,
Look on ebay for `Youngs Yeast and Yeast nutrient`, You will be OK with just using Yeast for this Brew.
Don`t pour from one DJ to another if there is any sediment visible. You may get away with it if you are very careful. If you have a siphon tube use that.
See the post `Cider` by Francois in the `Other Brews` section, Oldbloke has put THE definitive TC post on there. Well worth a read or two or even three
just to take it all in!
Yes you can bottle in 500ml bottles.

Re: Simple Cheap and Tasty, Raspberryade
Thanks WA. So I guess that I just stick the syphon in the top of my crude demijon, and transfer it to another that way, leaving the sediment etc in the first? This links in with another question I have about my first brew. I am bottling this eve, my FV has a tap, can I just pour it directly from the tap? I dont have another FV to syphon off to, and dont have a syphon to be able to do it to. Is this ok?
Thanks for all your help.
