The reason why it wont pull out completely is the safety tab on the spear, all keg spears should have them.

With a "s" the 5p trick will work.

If you read further down the link I posted..... this might be worth playing around with....
glad i could help and here's a bit extra (not sure if you forgot)

some of the A types have a locking system on the spear that stops you just using the punch and turning them out (after de-gasing)

you will get them "loose" but they will still be locked and wont lift out as there is a little metal tab annoying you...

after you release the gas use some multigrinps to grab the metal spear in the middle of the rubber ring
lift "up" on the spear and turn about 15 deg (not sure which way but i think clockwise to trick you...) to unlock
and let it go
the spear then will "drop in" to the keg

you then take your punch and use it to un screw it.

if the top does not have the little "punch hole" grab a grinder and cut a little slot in the rim to allow you to use a punch
You can of course at you own risk remove the tab before fitting the spear back into the keg.

:D not a good idea to let everyone know I`m giving away free couplers now - my poor reputation   Glad it will be of some use for your trials. Beer Line & other fittings are however not free

Have fun & enjoy brewing.....

From my initial assessment + this quote form Tony yes, I have only posted the coupler today so it should be with Tony tomorrow.

I`m just happy from what seemed like Tony being shafted by another ebay seller, might prove very useful knowledge for others / future "a" spear kegs.

yup that's the bit i alluded to, with the warning that you might scuff the metal a bit if you go direct on with grips. for me it was only 'bout a 15 degree turn clockwise once you've pulled the central part up 'bout a mm. but you'll know when you're there as you'll hear it drop..

If I were you I would contact Crusader and get a couple of S type spears to replace those. Check the thread size but very likely to be the same.
