Beer Engine Recipe Database?
Hi folks,
Does anyone know if there is an online database of recipes in Beer Engine format?
Cheers.

Why not create your own in Beer Engine? That's one of the things it was created for!Jim Blockley wrote:Hi folks,

Re: Beer Engine Recipe Database?
I've been adding my own as I brew them, I was just interested in seeing others and thought there might be a database somewhere...

I often add recipes that I like the look of long before I brew them. I think the brilliant thing about Beer Engine is its simplicity and ease of use.Jim Blockley wrote:I've been adding my own as I brew them, I was just interested in seeing others and thought there might be a database somewhere...

Re: Beer Engine Recipe Database?
On the subject of beer engine (sorry going a bit off piste) - my version was downloaded about 9 months ago and a number of malts and hops verities are missing. This is not a problem because you can adjust accordingly, but does anyone know if its updated on a regular basis?
Re: Beer Engine Recipe Database?
Graham is pretty busy with a book, and not in the best of health at the moment, so I doubt if he's devoting much time to updating Beer Engine.Fido97 wrote:On the subject of beer engine (sorry going a bit off piste) - my version was downloaded about 9 months ago and a number of malts and hops verities are missing. Re: Beer Engine Recipe Database?
Just update the list accordingly by adding hops and malt and all the relevent info. A while ago Graham was kind enough to give me the info for adding lactose to the list.Fido97 wrote:On the subject of beer engine (sorry going a bit off piste) - my version was downloaded about 9 months ago and a number of malts and hops verities are missing. Whilst many may play angry birds or whatever when they are skiving at work, my guilty pleasure is making up crazy beers on the beer engine and imagining what they would taste like. I'm a big fan. I've also started to input all the recipes I have on scraps of paper and various books so I don't lose them. Its a great thing, big thanks to GW!

I am just about to do a Milk Stout which includes lactose in the recipe - would it be possible to share the info for beer engine on this? Cheers

Re: Beer Engine Recipe Database?
The details are on Graham's Practical Brewing website. The LDK is about 360 for granules and 300 for syrup. Colour and fermentability are both zero.

Here is Grahams reply from his own forum.Fido97 wrote:IPA wrote:Just update the list accordingly by adding hops and malt and all the relevent info. I didn't know that people were still using BeerEngine :git:
You've got me stuffed there! I used to have definitive figures for the lactose supplied by home brewing shops, determined by experiment, but I've lost that data somehow and somewhere. However, there is lactose and there is lactose, and purity varies. It is difficult to be precise. If your lactose is in the form of a solid block, it is fair to assume that it will have an extract of about 340 LDK. If it is granular, assume about 360 LDK. If it is a syrup, assume about 300 LDK. Set fermentability to zero and call it a copper sugar. Obviously the colour will be zero.
Hope that helps!

Re: Beer Engine Recipe Database?
Cheers GW. Lactose data now added. All the best. Btw I think loads use Beer Engine......
Re: Beer Engine Recipe Database?
I use beer engine loads... So much simpler than beersmkth and others I tried. I really like it!
For a 'database' could someone simply set up a online storage/cloud thing and then anyone could upload their recipes to it, and then others could download them and such.
And have a link to it from this forum.
Thats about as technical as I go haha
