Sanitising the coopers fermenter and vwp

Post by Gappy » Thu Jul 10, 2014 11:12 pm

Hello

Had first brew day today. I did a lot of research and most of it went ok. Sanitised all kit in vwp even the scissors to open packets and the tin opener.

The hard bit was the coopers fermenter. It has a collar system with a lid that just sits on top, so as you might guess, trying to swish a gallon of vwp solution around and trying to get it all over the bucket was a task. The solution goes everywhere out from the lid area. This has made me think about getting a snap lid fermenter and sourcing some star San, because another tough point was making sure it was rinsed properly in a small kitchen sink lol.

Does anyone have any tips for sterilising the coopers collar fermenter?

The easiest and least messy way is to get yourself a micro fibre cloth & keep it especially for the task and just use that to wipe your sanitizer over all of the surfaces, and yes invest in a bottle of star san it makes the job so much easier & quicker.

Thanks for the advice. I'll get some star san and maybe a snap shut fermenter for the next brew.
