I am new to extract brewing - sorry for the basic question:
I hear that squeezing the grain after steeping can introduce tannins and should be avoided?
After the boil, should I avoid squeezing the hops? I place them in a muslin bag for convenience and so it would be easy to do.
Cheers
Jim
Hop squeezing?
Re: Hop squeezing?
When I used muslin bags to hold in the hops /and /or/ grains I always used to squeeze the wort out of them with no ill effect.

No issues here with grain bag squeeze, I control and temp closely ph though.. What's the consensus on hop squeezing?
Re: Hop squeezing?
OK, so I am hearing to squeeze both grains and hops - so there will be more flavour and sugars?

I`ve never had a problem squeezing both. I even squeeze the hops going into the FV after they boil for 5 mins, Strainer on top of FV,
Muslin placed over strainer, pour in the Hops and liquid, wait 5 mins for Hops to cool a bit, put on your sanitised heavy duty rubber gloves
and squeeze. Gets very hot, so make sure your gloves are thick enough!

When you make a cup of Tea, do you squeeze the T bag with a spoon on the inside of the mug before you take out the T bag? Why do you do that?
Seems the same to me as Hop Squeezing!
