Asda Oxy Powder Whites

Post by smbenn » Sun Oct 05, 2014 5:56 pm

Hi All

Looked at all the Vanish Oxy range and they all listed 'perfume' as the final ingredient. I'm sure it's not Chanel No.5 but would likely smell like fresh laundry or something. So went for the above (http://www.mysupermarket.co.uk/asda-com ... s_1kg.html) which didn't mention perfume in the ingredients. Should I be worried about the 'whites' ('optical brightener') bit? And guess this is clorine bleach based as had a bad time with chlorophenols a while back ...

Also they say 1 scoop (30g) for 4 litres so guess I'm looking at 5 scoops. Or is that insane? Anyone used this? Advice please!

Cheers
Si

Clue is in the name - Oxy(gen), not Chlorine

Also needs a good rinse afterwards (to remove any residue), before you use your sanitiser, eg StarSan, dilute Vinegar/Bleach combo.

Lidl also do a version, W5 also in a non perfumed version, great stuff and cheaper than the Vanish range.

OK cool, cheers. Is the ratio about right (ie 150g for 23L)?

I use three scoops in an overnight soak.

Appeared to do the trick.

i use 2-3 scoops of unbranded unscented laundry oxi generally sourced from the £ shop, but in the £ shop open and look for the coloured fragrance granuals as the unscented packs have contained scented when i didnt check.

if planning on leaving overnight use a weaker solution, 1-2 scoops, if too concentrated and allowed to cool it can deposit crystals which weld themselves to the surface of your vessel needing more work to scrape/disolve off..

generally 30-60 mins is enouigh to shift anything
ist update for months n months..
Fermnting: not a lot..
Conditioning: nowt
Maturing: Challenger smash, and a kit lager
Drinking: dry one minikeg left in the store
Coming Soon Lots planned for the near future nowt for the immediate :(

I have found it very good for helping to remove labels, so would have thought it would be good to lift almost all the other crud.
And Once I made up a very warm solution and then filled some bottles right up to the brim, these bottle had been standing dirty for a week. 20 mins later I looked, there was a head of brown bubbles sticking out of the tops of the bottles, so it did the trick for me.

So the right solution, and a soak for a bit of time, but as others have pointed out, leave it took long and you could get crystals forming. It's happened to me with vwp before.

I only usually use 1 blue scoop in a full FV, fill with hot water from the tap, and chuck in a scoop while it is filling. Cleans with in a couple of hours.
For nasty stains I use a bleach soak. But 99% of the time this is fine.

As has been said rinse well. Then sanitize.
