actually it was more a dig at HG, I suggested that the original was on the left but hey now the truth is out....

Your right DaaB, drinking the half of my beer was a lot easier than the half of p*ss

What a nightmare I had this weekend!
Firstly as soon as I got the mash on the thunder started so I moved everything inside the resultant thunder and lightening storm did this to the brew tent

The ensuing cold snap (possibly due to the hail that was the size of peas) meant my mash temp was way down on where it should have been and in a completely unrelated spot of bad luck my cable modem decides to give up the ghost as well! Oh and after all this the sun came out so I got the boil underway on the patio 90 mins in the thunder started so I cut the boil short which I was gutted about as I was about to hit my target 25l instead I got around 27 and ended up wringing another 3l out of the hops so I could fill up a demijohn and ferment! I daren't check my efficiency!
Anyhoo final recipe is as follows
4Kg Pale malt
340g crystal malt
100g black malt
100g torrified wheat
25 IBU's from 62.5g Fuggles 90 min boil
20g EKG s 15 min boil
20g Bramling cross 15 minute boil
Provisionally renamed "Thunderhead" after the big old thunderhead cloud that cut the boil short.

I got a bucket and a demijohn full of fermenting beer! It didn't turn out too bad gravity wise, I've just checked it on the calculator linked from your site and it came out around 1043 which, in my opinion, isn't that bad!
I'm going to work out the efficiency later on when I get bored, I've found out that I can get away with formulating beer recipies at work, scribbling out all the sums in my notebook looks very much like work to the uneducated eye
I'm going to formulate this weekends brew later on too I'll take advantage of the baltic weather and keep the fermenter full!

I have also dry hopped the brew with 15g of bramling cross and have started to get the spicy orange flavour I was aiming for after I drank a bottle of thwaites double century the other week
In deed it does. Have had many tent weather related incidents over the years but will always remember one year when the tent next to us collapsed in a huge storm. The next day I was stood chatting to the owner looking at the mangled remains of his tent under a foot of water and he said to meI laughed as soon as I saw that pic, does that make me a bad person
' do you think I should get the wife out of there now '

Boy has this brew changed. The banana has faded into the background and the promised spiciness is coming through. I dare say it would be a passable clone of brown ale if it had a little more torrified wheat in there to aid the head retention.
If you're after a brown ale clone then look no further than Safbrew T58
