I'm thinking of giving CSA a go, but I'm wondering how it will prosper in 2L PET bottles. I presume I'll have to drink each one sharpish once opened?

Also is there much difference in using 1.5Kg spraymalt instead of the mixture of 1.5 liquid malt and 0.5 spraymalt?

You need to really. I decant into a plastic pitcher to serve, leaving any sediment behind, but it will go flat if left.

It turns out very well with 1.5Kg of Light Spraymalt. I haven't made it with LME, but I have done a similar comparison with Cooper's Heritage Lager kits...

Taste-wise, there was little difference. The one made with LME took slightly longer to condition, it was a little heavier initially, but got lighter after a period of storage. After a few months, there was little difference.

cheers Paul. Trying to make the process as simple as possible for now. why make it more complicated when it can only cause problems!

I'm still undecided, as I'd rather not have to wait til I can definately polish off 2litres of nearly 6% on me own evrey time, when I'm really looking at something for those lazy august daze. Might have to get some smaller bottles. Is it ok to use bottles that commercial beer comes in, rather than getting the 'special' ones from the brew shop?

Also interested in doing the Coopers IPA, so that may win out. Or I may do both!

Not really up on which bottles are best, I use PETs almost exclusively. There's a few threads about bottles, I'd have a look in the equipment section - there seems to be certain favourites.

I know the little stubby bottles aren't recommended, and there's some which are difficult to cap - something to do with the capper not fitting the top of the bottle properly. Newcastle Brown bottles are good, and lots of folk use the 500ml bottles that many commercial ales come in.
