Adjustable height wort chiller

Post by awalker » Sun Nov 09, 2014 11:25 am

Just getting back into brewing after a break.

Have one of these wort chiller, which works well.Image

However i use it in a 33 litre pot, so if i do any more than 18 litres of wort it submerges completely. Which is a but rubbish.
Yesterdays brew i cable tied it to some conduit across the pot. But only half of it was in wort so took forever.

Thought about making it height adjustable, so i can set height before i drop in the pot.
Possibly using something like some more copper pipe as legs.

Any ideas would be great, as no idea how to attach it or make it adjustable.

Why not just STIR the wort when the cooler in in action. Or if you have a pump, pump it back in to the top (under the wort to avoid oxidising),

how tall is the cooler how long is the pipes length in metres
can you put it in your pot sideways , lying down?

If you make a few "S" shaped hooks of differing lengths, you can hang the coil from the rim of your pot at the depth you want.

Oxygen at that stage is good in order to get healthy yeast growth.

Now that is an excellent and simple solution.

I dont understand the problem? your ic coil is submerged great, maximum hex ;) if you want something rigid to manhandle just add more tube to the in and out feeds, measuring so that you can bend the tubes over the rim, if bending and soldering is not something you want to be bothered with compression fittings will do the job just as well.
ist update for months n months..

Problem is fil coil and tube is submerged.
If tube gets too soft, could just come off coil.

Though might end up extending it for piece of mind.

Just screw a hook in the ceiling and use a simple pulley attached to coil and ceiling then you can have it at any height you want Preferably as high as possible in the wort with the top coil just submerged.

Sounds like you need to either extend copper with some bends as others have suggested or hook IC onto side of kettle with something like this

I found some stainless long hanging hooks, like the long ones in the above pic, in a kitchenware shop.

Simple just make a gallows out of wood and attach the pully to that.
