I used Hobbyweld in the end, they have various agents working on their behalf, my nearest being Chelmsford at a tool hire company
£60 deposit for bottle (£50 returnable) and £30 for a refill - this was a 6.5kg bottle

Wow! that's expensive. I've just got a 5kg bottle, (just the right size for home IMO) which cost £40 deposit and £7.50 ish for the gas.
Best wishes

I'm assuming you didn't get it in Essex though!

If you can find cheaper in Essex that would be great. I pay similar to that. I think my bottles were about £60.00 deposit and about £25.00 a refill. Can't really remember it's at least a year since I needed a refill.

No, didn't get it in Essex. I got mine from these guys who are about 18 miles from me. The delivery was £10 something. Don't know what that would be to Essex - might be the same. Worth checking out? Edit to my post. It was 5 l rather than 5 kg. but still a good swedge of gas.
Best wishes

I've got my corny now so looking for the bottle... can I just clarify the gas, I was after UN1013 food grade and hobbyweld do this but the agents don't stock it and they wont get it from them(?) I have asked fire protection services and awaiting a reply, but assuming they may not do beer/beverage gas. Does everyone use UN1013 or I've heard there is another gas mix?

Looking at an online order at the mo but was trying to go local... http://gascylindersuk.co.uk/shop/index. ... ct_id=1060

Hi Midlife. I got my CO2 bottle(food grade) from the Hobbyweld agent, Mark 1 Hire at Springfield,Chelmsford about 8 months ago. I phoned up at they ordered it in the next day for me.
Just looked on Hobbywelds website which still confirms MK 1 as there supplier of food grade CO2 so you should be able to get it there. I shall be returning there in a couple of months for a refill.

A bit further up from Essex but I deal with Cellair for my pub. Not sure if they deal with the public too but they are very reasonable for gas prices.

Hi Doug

What mix did you go for?

I'm thinking 50/50.
