AG to Extract Recipe conversation

Post by alwilson » Thu Feb 05, 2015 1:09 pm

Morning Chaps

I am an AG brewer as you may know by now and my crazy questions.

A friend is a devout kit user, kits only!

I wanted to gift him a kit of my own recipe that he's a big fan of...

So first how do I go about doing this, firslty converting my recipe from weight of grain to syrup measurements...

Also, can you buy hop extracts to add? He doesnt have the ability to boil just adds hot water to a kit... so ultimately, i want to make him a kit...

Is this doable on a small scale - 25 litres? or am I in silly territory?

Cheers
Alex

You won't get a hot break without boiling so maybe some clarity issues, but you can buy Isometrized hop oil in small batch quantities for bittering, then do what you want for aroma - hop tea, dry hop or hop aroma oils; http://www.themaltmiller.co.uk/index.ph ... t&catId=25

speciality grains - crystal, roasted barley - are fine to be steeped at 66c for 30 mins.

what's the recipe? you could probably just start with a kit and build it from there instead.

recipe is pale, brown and black

with t-90 and t-30

mostly fuggle like hops

he has no ability to steep anything, so it has to be purely kit like

Do the brewday for him and instead of chilling at the end of the boil, fill a sanitised no-chill cube for him. That way you can provide the wort ready to go for him without the hastle...

[censored] genius is pinto!

I usually make 100L batches, so I can just siphon off 30 for him and we'll both win.

thanks!
