Re: Few slow cook recipes from curry frenzy
I used to have a great simple beef curry recipe for the slow cooker. Bu****::: if I can find it now though.
A simple tasty (and cheap) one, is to use:
A pack of chicken thighs (bone in usually 6-8 in the pack)
2 jars of Morrisons own brand curry sauce (28p last one I bought)
some sultana's and an eating apple peeled and diced (optional)
A desert spoonful of Mango Chutney.
extra curry powder if you want it hotter.
Just brown the thighs and put them in the slow cooker.
Pour over the sauce and add the extras.
Leave on low all day.
Serve with rice etc.
Gives a nice tasting meal and at a LOW cost.
This gives a nice curry like a Korma.
The Tesco own brand sauce can also be used it is a little hotter than the Morrison's one, Not tried anybody elses.

I have to say I'm not a big fan of the telco own brand curry sauce the dirt cheap one so I have a few cans left over, I guess this'll be a good way to use them up.Hairybiker wrote:I used to have a great simple beef curry recipe for the slow cooker. Bu****::: if I can find it now though.![]()

Think you have the wrong info about Slow Cookers Nursey, they use about the same energy as a low wattage lightbulb. The Centre for Sustainable Energy estimates the average electricity usage of an electric oven between 2-2.2kWh, while a microwave uses between 0.6-1.5kWh. A slow cooker uses approximately 0.7kWh over the eight hours.
Nothing's forgotten, nothings EVER forgotten...

I was not trying to have a pop at you I simply stated.
A good many people including myself think slow cookers do cost a lot to run
I have a gas cooker
Depending also on the watt of the slow cooker, checked this out on money saving expert.

We use one a lot and find it very economical. A nice thing to do is to make up a bread dough and bung it in the slow cooker. Comes out lovely
