Hi All, making a cream ale with my Grainfather on Sunday, and beersmith2 is asking for 2 packets of yeast ? should I add 2 or stick with just the 1 ?

Personally I'd go for one pack, rehydrate and make a starter.

Yeah, but surely if Beersmith is suggesting 2 packs of dry yeast then it's because it thinks it needs a higher cell count, and wouldn't this be achieved by making a starter?

Sure it would ,only thing is that dry yeast is dried with energy reserves which will deplete in starter, so for optimal result just pitch 2 packets (if needed) as it is easier and cheaper and less risk of contamination.
But 1 packet of 11.5g in 23 liters of 1.055 is sufficient.

Where in this screenshot is BeerSmith asking for two packets of yeast?
Sorry to resurrect an old thread - I'm about to buy a Grainfather and I am just trying to get my head around all grain brewing!

Its in the starter section on beer smith , suggesting that I need 2 packets , even though I put 1 sachet in the recipe
