TC And MEAD.

Post by subzero » Sat Jun 30, 2007 1:17 pm

Hey all, thinking about doing a TC and a MEAD, ive got two demijohns not being used so thought might as well start useing them for something. ^_^

So was just wondering if any one has any good TC receipes for a demijohn size (Could some one tell me how big demijohns are i got glass ones, 1gallon?).

I now about 100% concentrated pure apple juice so just really need a recipe and also a few tips/instructions.

Also i have searched for a mead recipe (on forums) but could any one give any tips advice and also a recipe would be most great full. ^^

Done a beer and wine so far (still fermenting). Any help would be great, cheers guys. :D

Just hope i can remember all the correct ingredients, but then of to Wilkinson's near me as they sell all the yeast and other ingredients. Shall get these on the go by the end of the day with pictures to follow. ^^

I have just found your questions on mead Subzero.

Check out the forums on :
www.northernbrewer.com

They have a section given over just to mead. and plenty of links to fill your boots with

I have various meads in primaries and secondries a few things I have picked up, don't boil your honey as you lose all the subtleties of the honey , time is the king, when there is a call for citric acid use lemon juice(1 lemon per 5l batch).

Also there are 3-4 videos on:
www.basicbrewingradio.com
these are very good and well worth downloading as they do varing yeasts as a experiment, and various flavourings. And a smuch as I hate to say it America is really pushing mead far more than in europe :(

Oh and don't forget mead ccan be served carbonated, and damn nice it is to served at 10degreesC.

Cheers prodigal2, I'll check them out. See what i can do and hopefully might turn into the mead guru on these forums  na juct joking.

But thank you, ive purchased some unicorn yeast and got yeast nutrients so hopefully if i get this job i'm going for in less than ten mins i'll have money to start testing some mead. ^_^

Shall find out next week but went ok, got another one tomorow for a part time shop assistant in a Mobility shop. Thank you for asking as well. ^_^

Nope didn't buy any honey as i'm about £30 over drawn but i got a tenner stashed away, hehe.

So tomorrow probably try and get some honey and do a demijohn worth.
^_^

As for the forum, it's pretty good stuff. Currently watching the vids from the other site.

Still cant believe got to leave it for a year. But ive raided the weatherspoons in my town for there bottles. hehe... So get a couple of wine bottles stored for next year will be lovely. ^_^

Yep I had the same reaction.
Good mead is such a hard thing to find.

If you read through the posts on northern brewer in the mead section you will find sooooooo much info.

Oh and like wine time is the key.

this autumn I'm thinking of laying some mead down for 4-6 months in a oak barrel using chestnut honey. the only problem will be finding a good corner that won't be disturbed by building work for 6 months

I find the mead from morrisons not to bad and at under £4 a bottle and to bad.

But i find that i can only drink half a bottle, not becuase i get drunk but because it's sooooo sweet. So will be good to brew some different flavours.

I'll get me self through the northen brewer forum eventually. ^_^

oooh, Oak barrel, i would love to try some of that. When i made some i'm going to bottle into wine bottles and leave them for a year.

But it'll be fun to make some mead, i now beer, ale and cider are OK but mead now that's something different. ^_^.
