True, but a lot of micro-organisms fare better in the presence of Oxygen and we are not operating in sterile conditions.
They do but they also fare better when exposed to beer i.e. a nutrient source. Additionally if your head space is filled with oxygen you've got a whole load of other spoilage problems to worry about.

The whole 'you can't get contamination from dry hopping' thing may well be b*******. I've had 3 infected batches, 2 very likely from dry hopping. A SS tea-ball with weight seems the best and safest solution.

ive dry hopped hundreds of times ,never had a problem if I use good aseptic techniques. I microwave the bag in already boiling water for 12 minutes though, mainly I use pellets, as the capt said, they're a damn sight easier....

Quick update on this. Having had lots on, I didn't get round to doing anything with it. Last night, I had some time so I was getting ready to dump it. Thought I'd have a quick try first, and it was delicious. Threw it in 2 cornies with some potassium meta to stop any further yeasties and threw the gas on it. Not a loss after all!

Agree with others who say give it a shot and don't dump it yet - whats the worst that could happen
Can't taste any worse than some kits that I've brewed to the letter
You may find yourself pleasantly suprised and it's never over until it's over!
