Sub £100 Malt Mills

Post by Dave1970 » Mon Nov 09, 2015 11:08 pm

Mrs Dave is asking what I want for Christmas and I'm fed up of my super cheapo hand mill - Difficult to get a consistent crush with it

There seem to be 2 choices that are:
a. available in the UK
b. in stock with some shops
c. about the right price

There's the Bulldog Malt Mill available here for £89.99

This seems to have the advantage of the 2 rollers being geared together, which is meant to put less shear force on the grain resulting in more intact husks.

or the Brewferm mill, available from Amazon for £95.00

Anyone have any experience of either or able to recommend another one that fits a, b & c above?

Ah crap that's a good price on the Brewferm! I just ordered one from somewhere else (for more), and I haven't even got it yet.

Just ring them up and cancel under distance selling regulations, if they have already dispatched just refuse delivery so it gets sent straight back to them Image

I have had the bulldog for xmas so have only been allowed to test it, it works well with the gearing
and easy to adjust the rollers

I have the bulldog too, but how do you guys set these up? I would like to fix my mill to a hopper so that it is stable when I hand crank it.

I get enough resistance that it jerks around a lot.

I set the gap at 1mm use a fairly wide bucket, at the moment i hand crank
and lean on the hopper not had any problems
